The workshop brought together representatives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC), officials and members of the Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC), as well as various youth stakeholders involved in discussions on the future of Cameroonian youth. The participation of CNYC officials, particularly under the leadership of Madam Fadimatou Iyawa, contributed to guiding the discussions around the priorities and aspirations of young people.CNYC interns also took part in the activities and monitoring of the workshop.
Purpose / Agenda
The main purpose of the workshop was to consolidate and validate the CNYC Strategic and Operational Plan 2026-2029.The discussions aimed at reviewing strategic orientations, identifying key priorities for youth development, collecting contributions from stakeholders and developing a coherent framework to guide CNYC interventions from 2026 to 2029.
Main Issues Discussed
The discussions focused on the need to better address the realities, challenges and aspirations of Cameroonian youth within the Council’s future strategic orientations.Participants emphasized that young people should not only be considered beneficiaries of public policies, but also key actors and forces for development and policy proposals.Issues related to youth empowerment, civic participation, access to opportunities, digital transformation and emerging challenges affecting young people were also discussed.Particular attention was given to challenges affecting young women, including violence, sociocultural barriers, online harassment, the digital divide, limited access to opportunities and irregular migration. The workshop therefore served as a platform for consultation and collective reflection aimed at developing realistic, coherent and youth-centered orientations.
Decisions Taken
The various contributions made during the workshop were taken into consideration in the process of consolidating and validating the CNYC Strategic and Operational Plan 2026-2029.Emphasis was placed on the need to establish an intervention framework capable of better addressing youth concerns and strengthening their participation in national development.Continued collaboration among the relevant stakeholders was also highlighted as essential for the effective implementation of the adopted orientations.
Actions to Be Undertaken, Responsible Parties and Deadlines
The implementation of the Strategic and Operational Plan 2026-2029 should continue through the translation of the adopted orientations into concrete, achievable and measurable actions. The CNYC, in collaboration with MINJEC and relevant partners, will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the agreed actions. The various responsible units will need to define activities, indicators, required resources and deadlines in order to facilitate effective monitoring and evaluation throughout the 2026-2029 period.
Next Meeting
A follow-up meeting may be organized as necessary to monitor the implementation of the Strategic and Operational Plan 2026-2029, assess initial results and introduce appropriate adjustments where necessary.
Conclusion
The consolidation and validation workshop represents an important step towards building a common vision for Cameroonian youth. Beyond the validation of a strategic document, the discussions reaffirmed that young people must be at the heart of reflection, decision-making and action. The success of the 2026-2029 Plan will therefore depend on the ability of all stakeholders to transform the adopted orientations into concrete, inclusive and sustainable actions for the benefit of Cameroonian youth.
